When you were a little person, if you grew up the way that I did, you probably long for connection with somebody who was healthy, who was interested in you, and could kind of care for you. And one way we do that with children is to read them bedtime stories and stories in general. So I'm gonna read two stories today.
I'm gonna read Harold and the Purple Crayon, which is a personal favorite of mine. And I also love this one too, but it's my son's favorite. Which is the little blue truck. So if you struggle with maybe a little bit of anxiety at night, or if you don't really feel connected, this is a good video to pop on and see if it can kind of soothe you and maybe put you to sleep a little bit or just help you feel connected with yourself.
So here goes. So this one's a favorite of mine. This is Harold and the purple crayon. You ready? Okay. By Crockett Johnson. One evening after thinking it over for some time. Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight. There wasn't any moon and Harold needed a moon for a walk in the moonlight and he needed something to walk on.
Wow. He made a long, straight path so we wouldn't get lost. Harold's really good at perspective. Um, I can't do that. And he set off for his walk, taking his big purple crayon with him. But he didn't seem to be getting anywhere on the long straight path. So he left the path for a shortcut across the field and the moon went with him.
Did you ever notice that the moon follows you? The shortcut led right to where Harold thought a force ought to be. He didn't want to get lost in the woods, so we made a very small forest with just one tree in it. It turned out to be an apple tree. The apples would be very tasty. Harold thought when they got red.
Hmm. Whoa. So we put a frightening, wait a minute, did we skip apart here? No, we're just jumping into the monsters. So we put a frightening dragon under the tree to guard the apples. Oh, that's why it was a terribly frightening dragon. No one's gonna take them apples. It even frightened Harold. So he backed away his hands holding the purple crayon, shook.
It was exciting. Suddenly he realized what was happening by, but by then Harold was over his head in an ocean. He came up thinking fast and in no time he was climbing aboard a trim little boat, trim little boat. He quickly set sail and the moon sailed along with him. There's that moon following again after he sailed.
Um, after he had sailed long enough, Harold made land without much trouble. He's got the crayon. He stepped ashore on the beach, wondering where he was. The Sandy beach reminded Harold of picnics. And the thought of picnics made him hungry, so he laid out a nice, simple picnic lunch. Hmm, wow. There was nothing but pie, but there were all nine kinds of pie that Harold liked best.
When Harold finished his picnic, there was quite a lot left. He hated to see so much delicious pie go to waste. I would feel that way too. And so, so Harold, so Harold left a very hungry moose and a deserving porcupine to finish it up. That's what I would do. And, and off he went, looking for a hill to climb to see where he was.
Harold knew that the higher up he went. The father he could see. So he decided to make a hill into a mountain. Why not? If he went high enough, he thought he could see the window of his bedroom. That'd be cool. He was tired and he felt he ought to be getting to bed. He hoped he could see his bedroom window from the top of the mountain.
Ah, but as he looked down over the other side, he slipped. And there wasn't anything on the other side of the mountain. He hadn't drawn that yet. He was falling in thin air, but luckily he kept his wits and his purple crayon and he made a balloon and he grabbed onto it and he made a basket under the balloon big enough to stand in smooth.
He had a fine view of the balloons, but he couldn't see his window. He couldn't even see his house. So he made a house with windows and he landed the balloon on the grass in the front yard. None of the windows was his window. He tried to think where his window ought to be, so he made some more windows. He made a big building full of windows.
This is the part that gets me. He made lots of buildings full of windows. He made a whole city full of windows. Wow. He's really good at drawing, but none of the windows was his window. He couldn't think where it might be. He decided to ask a policeman. The policeman pointed the way Harold was going anyway, but Harold thanked him.
That police officer looks a little bit sketched to me. He's. Angular, like a, or electric or something. Anyway, and he walked along with the moon wishing he was in his room and in his bed. Then suddenly Harold remembered, he remembered where his bedroom window was, where there was a moon. It was always right around the moon.
He remembered where it was, and then Harold made his bed. He got in it and he drew up the covers. The purple crayon dropped to the floor and Harold dropped off the sleep. I love that book. He went on an adventure. So this is actually my son's favorite book. This is the little blue truck horn went beep engine, pur friendliest sounds you've ever heard.
Just a little blue truck. It's fall. Got some birds. Little blue truck. Little blue truck came down the road, beep said blue to a big green towed. Can you find the towed? Towed? Said croak and winked an eye. When the little blue truck went rolling by, he had a tow crossing.
Sheep said back. Cow said, move. Oink said Piggy beep said blue
Cluck said a chicken and her chick said, peep Ma said a goat blue said beep meh. I said, ma, that was a very Boston ma. Me. That's how goats sound. Nay said A horse quack said a duck beep said the friendly little blue truck. It's raining.
Honk yelled, A dumb truck coming through. I have big, important things to do. He sounds bossy. That that was intrusive. I haven't got time to pass the day with every duck along the way, man. Traumatic room went the dumb truck around a curve. He saw a puddle and he tried to swerve into the mud. Ruled a big fat truck.
Hmm. Um, we don't like that word. And, and his big important wheels got stuck raining mud, big truck is stuck. His heavy duty dump truck tires were sunk down deep in the muck and the mire honk, cried the dump. As he sounded scared, but nobody heard or nobody cared. Now we feel bad for the truck, don't we? Then into the mud bump, bump, bump came the little blue truck to help the dump.
Little blue pushed with all his Might. I wonder if the blue truck might be a little bit codependent or has a rescue fantasy or something like that. Now blue in the dump, were both stuck tight. Oh no. It's just like a bad relationship. When we rescue people. Help, help, help cry. The little blue truck. Beep, beep, beep.
I'm stuck. I'm stuck. Everybody heard that? Beep, beep, beep. The cow came running with the pig and the sheep. France are showing up for him. They're gonna rescue him from trying to rescue the truck. Anyway, up at a Gallup, ran the big brown horse goat, jumped over the fence, of course, then came flapping with the chick and the duck.
Everybody pushed the little blue truck head to head and rump to rump. They all push blue. Who pushed the dump? They couldn't quite budge that heavy load. But then who hopped up? But the big green towed all together. 1, 2, 3, 1 last push and the trucks were free. I hope the big truck learned a lesson here, don't you?
Thanks little brother said the dump to blue. You helped me and they helped you. Now I see a lot depends on a helping hand from a few good friends. Beep said blue. Who wants a ride? Everyone scrambled to jump inside. Oink crack, ba moo, cluck peep nay croak me Or you want me to do the Boston? Me Beep beep beep.
Okay. Do you think the big truck learned his lesson? So that's the little blue truck. I hope you enjoyed it. That's the video. I hope it was helpful and I can express how important it is to connect with kids. There's a video that I did on something called RINs, which will be in the description to this video where I talk about someone.
Reading, actually a stranger helping me by reading me a story because they sense that I was kind of in the need of that kind of connection, which I wasn't getting at home. So I hope it was helpful. Maybe be filled with loving kindness. May be well. May you be peaceful entities and may you be joyous and I will see you next time.
