dating
Dating is the process of exploring romantic or sexual connection with another person. In therapy, it is treated less as a game or checklist and more as a real-time view into attachment styles, self-worth, and relational patterns carried from family of origin.
For people with trauma or codependent wiring, dating can trigger abandonment fears, anxious monitoring, avoidance, rapid merging, or chronic choosing of emotionally unavailable partners. The intensity often masquerades as chemistry. Healthier dating involves pacing, noticing red and green flags, boundary practice, and tolerating the discomfort of getting to know someone slowly. Clinically, dating is a laboratory for self-awareness and for practicing the regulation skills built in therapy.
