over sharing

Over sharing is the pattern of revealing personal, intimate, or emotionally heavy information to people who have not earned that level of trust or in contexts where it isn't appropriate. It often leaves both the over-sharer and the listener feeling exposed, uncomfortable, or regretful afterward.

For trauma survivors, over sharing is frequently a trauma response rather than a communication style. People raised without modeled discretion, or who were parentified and used as confidantes, may not have learned the natural pacing of intimacy: sharing a little, seeing how it lands, and letting trust build over time. Healing involves slowing down, noticing the urge to dump, and practicing measured vulnerability that honors both your story and your safety.
