abandonment

Abandonment is the deep emotional wound that forms when love, care, or safety are withdrawn—often suddenly or without explanation. It leaves behind the painful imprint of being unwanted, unseen, or disposable.

For many raised in anti-love or neglectful family systems, abandonment wasn't always dramatic; it could come in quiet moments when comfort was denied or needs were ignored. Over time, these experiences teach the nervous system to expect rejection and to guard against intimacy.

Healing from abandonment means learning that love can be steady, that connection doesn't have to come at the cost of self-worth, and that the part of us still waiting to be chosen can begin to choose ourselves.
